April 24/26

Thanks to our volunteers for the field trip to Burnaby Village Museum -  Casey, Chase, Lilac's moms, Frazer's Granny and Caelus parents. Your help and time made this field trip possible!  The students really enjoyed their day and learned so much about what life used to be in like 100 years ago. Most of Div. 13 said their favourite part of the day was the school house and learning to do handwriting (calligraphy) with an ink pen! Did your child ask you why they found milk only in a can (Evaporated Milk) in the General Store? We will be discussing this on Monday.

This week we have also been celebrating Earth Day, brainstorming ways that we can help our earth for the future.  

Cross Country practices this season will be at recess on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays.  The primary race will be on Thursday, May 21 at Albion Sports Field.  Students are welcome to join these practices but if they want to go to the race they need to complete a race form, that are available at the practises or at the front foyer by the office.

Division 13 – Weekly Update

• Spelling: If students have their Spelling duotang at home, please complete Lesson 7.
• RCMP Presentation: Students learned about social, physical, and cyber bullying and the importance of never sharing personal information online.
• Thank You: Thank you to Devon’s family for pizza and to Theo, Walter, Sophia, and Maxyn for treats. Students also enjoyed Magic School Bus episodes and a Métis Fiddle presentation.
• Art: Students completed their Artemis II artwork—excellent work! It is in the hall on display.

Upcoming Events

• May Assembly (May 7): Div. 12 & 13 will perform. Please practice and memorize O Canada, Can‑a‑da, and Canada in My Pocket.
• Field Trip – Burnaby Village Museum (Tues, April 21): Full‑day trip. Thanks to Casey, Frazer, Chase, Caelus, Lilac and 2 parents from Mrs. Sirovyak's class have volunteered to drive.  Students need a booster seat, labelled bagged lunch, and rain‑appropriate clothing but I'll send a detailed reminder email on Monday.  
• Grade 7 Treat Bags: Sold after school Tuesday, April 21 for $2 (supports Grade 7 graduation).

Happy Spring!  Your children were so welcoming! It made coming back to reality - work and routine feel much easier even with the jet lag!

We are still in need of volunteer drivers to help transport and supervise students.

Important: This field trip has already been paid for. If we need to cancel for any reason, payment will still be required.

Your child’s book bag will now include a variety of books at different levels.

 Spring has definitely arrived!  Hope you are all enjoying the nice weather that finally arrived or had when I wrote this yesterday! 

Skating: Thank you to everyone who helped out with our skating field trip on March 10.  Div. 13 are becoming more confident skaters!  

Student Led-Conferences:  It was great to meet with you again last week to celebrate your  child's successes at our student led conferences, thank you all for taking the time this is an important part of their education process. 

Field Trip:  Burnaby Village Field Trip is now on the portal, parent volunteers and drivers are needed.  Please sign up as soon as possible.  This is a non-refundable trip so if your child is unable to attend we need to know by April 1.  

Class Celebration:  We will have our Spring Celebration on Thursday, April 16th.  Thanks to these families for providing our goodies and snacks... Pizza - Devon's family will be providing for lunch      Fruit Plate - Sophia,  Veggie Plate - Walter, Sweet Treat - Maxyn ? and Popcorn/chips or pretzels - Theo.

 Skating Reminder Tuesday, March 10 12:30 - We are still in need of more drivers for both classes. If we are unable to secure enough volunteers, we will unfortunately need to cancel. :(.  If you are able to help, please email me as soon as possible. Thank you in advance!   A final decision will be made on Monday.

RW Books & Spelling - Please continue to practice the RW books (the one marked with the post‑it in your child's book bag). Students will be presenting next week. Also, please note that there will be no spelling until after the Easter long weekend.

Student-Led Conferences - March 12 & 13  please sign up. The conference will be a  30-minute commitment (1st 15 minutes with your child in the hall to celebrate and go through their work and then up to 15 minutes with me and your child to discuss their report card and set goals for our next term).  If none of these times work for you please email and let me know when you are available and we can make arrangements.

Feb. 27/26

Spelling: Lesson 6 is review and will be over two weeks. The first set of words went home in planners this Monday, and we had our quiz on Friday. The second set of words will go home next Monday, and students will be quizzed on those words next Friday. Incomplete spelling duatangs will be going home this Wednesday.

Book Fair:  Your child brought home their wishlists today. Div 13 will be shopping at the Book Fair on Tuesday, March 3rd. Please send money in a sealed envelope/ Ziplock bag labelled with the student's name.  Please note other times the book fair is open to the public.

It’s hard to believe we have now completed 100 days of school. On Thursday the student's task was to run and find all the numbers, 1-100 and then they problem solved, work together to organize and build a large 100 chart. 

Today for 100 day, Div. 13 focused on money, we reviewed multiplication, 10 dimes = a loonie, 10 loonies make $10, 10 X $10 equals $100.00,  5 X $20.00 = $100.00 20 X $5.00.

Then using Timbits, we learned all about division sharing 100 yummy donut holes.  Speaking of yummy treats our trail mix was lots of fun, a sweet and salty treat.  We counted all our collections, we had 1700 which we divided for everyone to take home!  All the primary classes had a short assembly in the gym and we ended the day working with Div. 12 building or colouring!  A busy but successful day!

Upcoming Dates:

• On Tuesday we will be walking (rain or shine) to Westveiw to watch The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood. Please dress appropriately for the weather/proper footwear. We will be eating lunch early so that we can leave by 12. 
• Div 13 student led-conference sign up will be sent out on Tuesday,  I do have a basketball game after school so it will later in the afternoon.  March 12 & 13 are our conference days.  The conference will be a  30-minute commitment (1st 15 minutes with your child in the hall to celebrate and go through their work and then up to 15 minutes with me and your child to discuss their report card and set goals for our next term).  If none of these times work for you please email and let me know when you are available and we can make arrangements. 
• Wednesday is Kindness Day - students are welcome and encouraged to wear pink!
• One more week of Reading for Gold!  Please support your child in remembering to read each day, colouring their calendars and then you need to initial the boxes.
