🌟 Division 13 End of Year Reflections 🌟

Div. 13 had such a fun morning yesterday looking through their Memory Books and reflecting on all the wonderful learning and experiences we shared this year. I truly hope these books become treasured keepsakes for years to come. The idea actually came from my own son, who still enjoys looking back at his years later!

It has been such a joy to watch your children learn, grow, and build friendships over the past ten months. From the first days of September to now, each student has contributed in their own unique way to our classroom community.

We have shared many special moments—celebrating successes, working through challenges, and creating lasting memories together. I am so proud of the progress each child has made, both academically and socially.

I want to sincerely thank you for sharing your children with me this year. It has been a pleasure getting to know each of them—laughing, learning, and growing together.

Thank you as well for your ongoing support throughout the year with field trips, family reading, special projects, and more. It truly takes a village to raise and educate a child, and I am so grateful to be part of this one!

A special thank you to the parents who helped by washing classroom manipulatives—your time and effort are very much appreciated.

📚 Summer Learning Reminder

To help maintain and strengthen the skills students have worked so hard to build, I encourage everyone to read for 10–15 minutes each day over the summer. I highly recommend joining the FV Library Summer Reading Program, which we learned about on our field trip—it’s a fun way to keep students motivated! Students can also continue to access Raz-Kids over the summer for additional reading practice.

Students also brought home their Snakes and Ladder Math Games, which are a fun way to practise math facts.  Playing games and practising skip counting are great ways to keep math skills sharp over the summer.

• Primary students (K–3): No need to purchase school supplies. A one-time fee will be collected once students are in their new classes.
• Grade 4 students: Will need to purchase their own school supplies.

June 19/26. Busy Days, Picnic Highlights & End-of-Year Reminders

Hi Families,

Our year together is quickly coming to a close.  We’ve had a very busy and fun couple of days. Our Teddy Bear Picnic with Div. 12 was a big success! Thank you to the families who sent in snacks and treats—the kids absolutely loved having a picnic in the forest with their friends and their stuffies.

A reminder that many families have not yet paid for the Memory Book. The cost is $10, payable online or in cash (in a labelled Ziplock bag) by Monday. You’ve seen these binders at conferences—I've added collages, and next week your child will be creating their own collage using photos from throughout the year.

Next Monday, Tuesday we will be finishing up many different activities, so I'm hoping that all students will be in attendance (we only had 11 students today). Wednesday is our last day of school. It is a half day with 12:00 dismissal. Students will be bringing home their Memory Books. 

Parent Volunteers Needed:  If you are able to help wash classroom manipulatives (LEGO, pattern blocks, etc) please email me.  Items can be taken home, washed, and returned afterward. With the warm weather, they could easily be dried outside on a towel.  Thanks so much - this is a big job at the end of the year and I truly appreicate your help. 

Today, inside shoes and extra clothes were sent home with those students in attendance.. Please continue to send back any classroom books, as well as your child’s book bag if you haven’t already done so.

Please check your chilld's planner bag this weekend and remove everything except their planner and poetry book, which should be returned on Monday.  We’ll be presenting our Summer Poems on Monday/Tuesday, so please take some time to practise these together over the weekend. You will also find a summer word search and a "Round It" game in the poetry book that students may complete.   

Hope everyone has an enjoyable Father's Day weekend!  Your children worked hard and were very excited with about their Father's Day gifts.  Thank you for your continued support during this busy final stretch of the school year.

June 12/26

Div. 13 had a very fun but busy week!  Our Bowling field trip was enjoyed by all! Thanks again to those parents who helped out to make this possible.  Fun Day was also a very exciting day with an opening and closing ceremony, 10 different Canadain stations and then the tug-o-war!  A huge thank you to the PAC and the Fun Day Committee that organized this fun-packed day!  

CLASSROOM BOOKS...Please check your homes carefully for any classroom books and return next week.   We will be stopping book bags on Wednesday as well as taking out any new classroom books.  

Our Scientists of the Day projects all turned out so well this year.  We learned about biology, chemistry   many different chemical reactions, how a compass works, that electricity flows through metal, static electricity and even a waterproof finger!

Please practise your child's poem at home as they will be presenting these to the class.  They should be bringing  their poetry back and forth to school each day. 

Parent Volunteers Needed:     I need help washing manipulative (you would take these home and return).  Thanks so much, I always try to wash every bin of building and math objects at the end of the year and this is a huge job. 

Year End Celebration-(Teddy Bear Picnic): Div. 12, Div.13 if needed we will move it inside but we really hope it works for outside. Students can bring a blanket and teddy bear from home.  Thanks to Frazer - Fruit Plate and Rajveer - popcorn/chips or pretzels for signing up for our picnic snacks . If any other families would like to provide something please let me know.

During the final days, we will be busy working on memory book activities and wrapping up our year together. We would love to have all students in attendance for these special moments.

If your family will be away and your child will miss any of these days, please let me know as soon as possible.

June 5/26

This first of June was busy but fun!  

Our Science Alive workshop on Thermal Energy was both interesting and informative. The SFU students taught us about thermal energy, with a focus on conduction and convection.  As part of the workshop, we created our own thermometers to explore how temperature changes affect liquids. We observed that when the thermometer was placed in hot water, the coloured liquid (representing mercury) rose, and when placed in cold water, it lowered. This helped us understand how heat energy transfers and demonstrated the concept of conduction in a hands-on way.

            

On Friday, we had a wonderful time exploring six different Indigenous Games stations! Students participated in a variety of activities, including Waltes, Stick Catch, Line Tag, High Kick, and Sling Ball, and also had the opportunity to sample a selection of Indigenous foods.

It was a fun and engaging experience for everyone! Please ask your child which activities they enjoyed most and which game they felt most successful in.

                                      

Div. 13 planted “mystery seeds” several weeks ago and have been eagerly watching them grow. Working with partners, students observed similarities and differences between the seeds and, later, the plants as they developed.

On Friday, we revealed the four types of edible plants: beans, peas, radishes, and nasturtiums. The plants were sent home and can be transplanted into your garden or into a larger pot. Each plant is labelled on the stick to help you identify it.

Please practise Reader's Workhop books as we will be presenting these next week.  

Monday - Odyessey's Entrepeneur Fair  If you'd like your child to purchase any items please send money (maximum $5.00) in a labelled Ziplock bag. 

 Pizza and Bowling - Tuesday June 9  Thanks to Nolan, Sophia, Caelus, Lilac and Frazer for driving. You will not need to send a regular lunch but please still a large snack to ensure they have enough food.  Booster seats are required for those students under 9.

Fun Day - Friday, June 12  Please ensure your child is dressed for the weather, sunscreen and brings a labelled waterbottle.  Our chant will be added to their poetry book and will come hoe nightly. Please practise nightly.
