***Tomorrow we are starting our Family Reading, if possible please join Div. 13 from 8:30-8:45. I will put out a sign up for Classroom Celebrations, volunteer forms and drivers abstracts.
Today your child brought home their planner with several different notices in the plastic pouch at the front. Please read over the letter and fill out and return the other papersif applicable. Below is my first letter home...
September 11, 2025
Dear Parents of Division 13 Students,
My name is Sheralyn Rowledge-Toscani and I have been a teacher at Fairview for many years, largely in the primary grades. I am really looking forward to a great year! I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your children to my class and answer some questions you may have about this school year. Div. 13 currently has 18 students.
Our school supplies have been done in BULK, the cost of these supplies are $60.00, this includes supplies and your child’s planner. $60.00 should be paid asap either online through the parent portal or in cash (please send in a ziplock labelled with your child’s name). I have already organized and labelled most of your child’s things, however on Friday I will send home their markers, super tips and pencil crayons. I would appreciate if you could label each one with your child’s class number as indicated on the front of their bag using a black sharpie. Please return these on Monday if possible. If you need a permanent marker please email and I will send you one. Often, we find these on the floor, and this solves the mystery of whose it is! Thank you so much in advance for your help with this!
*Students need a pair of sturdy running “indoor” shoes. These will be used for gym and the classroom - this helps keep our school clean.
*Planners will provide home and school communication throughout the year, and where your child can record their home reading and you can write me messages (eg.) pickup or upcoming holidays). We started our planners today, please look in the plastic pouch for notices. Please check and sign the planner nightly, as well as checking the pouch at the front. Planners should be returned in the large ziplock bag daily, this helps protects the books and planner from spills.
*An extra set of clothes (including socks and underwear) is suggested in case of any type of accidents. (bathroom/puddles!). Ideally if you could label your child’s belongings – our lost and found is always overflowing!
*Fairview has a pack in/pack out lunch, these can be in either a paper bag or clean container. These will stay in their backpacks except during eating times. I recommend that you send healthy snacks and lunches, no candy and pop please. There is no sharing of any food. Please send a labelled water bottle for your child as that is so much safer than the water fountains. Water refill stations are open.
*Please update the verification form with any allergy information. If your child has a serious allergy, please request the medical information documents from the office.
*Div. 13 will be spending lots of time outside. Rain or shine we will go out for learning, and physical activity. Students will also be out for recess and lunch; this is the West Coast! Please ensure your child has appropriate clothing and footwear for all kinds of weather. Fairview is so lucky to have our forest but as you know it gets wet and mucky! Rain boots are recommended because as you know children love puddles and mud!
* We will often have our classroom door and windows open to improve the ventilation, please send a hoodie or a sweater so if your child is cold, they have something warm.
*I have attached a questionnaire (pink sheet) to this letter that I would like you to fill out and return as soon as possible. These give me valuable information and insights about your child that sometimes would take me months to discover. Thanks J
*If you’d like to volunteer for the class please complete/return the form (sorry it’s also pink). Thank you in advance.
Division 13’s Schedule:
*Library will be on Thursday, your child’s library book will come home in a labelled ziplock bag and should be returned weekly.
*Family Reading will be on Fridays 8:30-8:45.
*Our gym days are Monday & Tuesday but as most of you know exercise and movement breaks are important every day, please ensure that your child is dressed in comfortable clothes so that they are able to fully participate in all activities.
*Fine Arts (music/drama) with Mr. Saul is on Wednesday & Fridays.
*Forest/Outdoor Education will be most Thursdays.
*Division 13 has their own blog – the link is http://rtfairview25-26.blogspot.com/
This can also be accessed by going to Fairview Elementary, then Classroom Websites and then Ms Rowledge-Toscani. This is the main method of communication in our class. There is a monthly calendar plus I generally update it weekly (usually Friday but for sure by Sunday!). I will try to send an email each week as a reminder. Please check regularly so you know what we have been up to and what is coming up.
I like to include photos of the students in action but to do this, parents must agree to outside media. This is with several other forms that you will need to complete asap on the parent portal.
I am excited to spend this school year with your children and I am also looking forward to working with you, the parents – partners in your child’s education.
I will do my best to keep you informed on what is going on in the classroom. If you have any questions please do ask, either write a note in the planner, or call the school at 604-465-9331. You can also reach me by email at sheralyn_rowledge-toscani@sd42.ca but please note I don’t have a chance during the day to check it but will get back to you asap and if it is something urgent it is best to call the school.
I can’t wait to meet and get to know all of you!
Sheralyn Rowledge-Toscani
***Due to the fact there are often email issues, I am sending a hard copy of this letter home with the students. If you didn’t receive it by email as well, please let me know as soon as possible so we can rectify this problem. Thanks
