Today we unfortunately had to say good-bye to Winni. She and her family are moving to Rickmond and we wish them all the very best.  We will defintiely miss her, she was a special member of Div. 13. 

February is shaping up to be a very busy and exciting month for our learners! 

Throughout the month, we will be taking part in an Olympic Reading Challenge.              READ FOR GOLD information went home today.  Please take a moment to read it over. We encourage students to read daily, complete the special February calendar, and have a parent initial each day.

We will also begin our #1 Canadian presentations on Thursday, Feb. 5th (specific dates were included in last week's post).

On Friday, Feb. 6th, all primary students will join in a fun Olympic Event in the gym.  If possible, students are encouraged to wear their team colour (or any clothing that includes that colour—please don’t purchase anything new just for this event!).

*Feb. 12 - Valentines Day Celebration and Pancake Breakfast (sponsored by our PAC) ... This will be a fun but busy day so we decided that instead of having our snacks and treats that we had scheduled for this day I'm asking families to bring them for a Spring Celebration that will be determined at a later date. If you have any questions about this let me know.

On Tuesday February 24th we have our walking field trip to Westview to see the drama presentation of  The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood    Several students have not signed up on the portal please do so asap.

Div. 13 is excited about 2026!

Starbucks Field Trip!

On Monday, we were thrilled to welcome Mrs. Johnston as our special guest! She read us two Tacky the Penguin stories, and we followed them up with some fun drama activities. 

 Div. 13 did a fantastic job—what excellent penguins they were!

This letter should have come with your child today as well as the Canadian flag they made.  Please read it carefully and put your child's special date on your calendar. We also discussed their heritage (you could include flags and even bring in a special ethnic treat on their special day).  

Division 13: #1 Canadian Celebrations 

Everyone in Division 13 is a special Canadian citizen, and we are excited to celebrate each child! Over the next several weeks, we will be recognizing the important Canadians in our classroom.

Each student will have a special day as “#1 Canadian.” On that day, they will share their Important Canadian Poster, which they will complete at home by adding photos to a Canadian flag background provided at school. Students must include their first and last names(middle name optional). These posters will be laminated and placed in their memory books.

On their special day, students will bring their posters and give a short 3–5 minute presentation about themselves. They may talk about:

• When and where they were born
• Special trips they have been on
• Hobbies and interests

Students are also welcome to bring in trophies, medals, souvenirs, or additional photos to share with the class.

An important part of the presentation is explaining why they are an important Canadian. Please take some time to discuss this with your child—talking about what makes them special and the things you appreciate about them. This reflection will help them feel confident and prepared.

I kindly ask that you plan and practise the presentation with your child at home. The main goal of this activity is to help students practice speaking in front of a group and build public speaking confidence in a supportive environment.

Below is the schedule showing when your child will be our #1 Canadian. If the date presents a challenge for your family, please let us know. We may be able to adjust the schedule. We hope to complete all presentations before conferences, and we have built in three extra days to help accommodate family schedules.

January 16/26

Division 13 had a busy week and wrapped up several projects! Our first week of spelling went very well. Spelling words are recorded in planners each Monday. Any weekly lessons that are not finished in class (mint‑green duotangs) will come home on Wednesdays but must return to school each day.

Please continue practising the winter poems in your child’s poetry book—we will be presenting them over the next two weeks.

We’ve also been enjoying the beautiful winter weather. Divisions 12 and 13 had a great time at the newly updated Fairview Park for Forest Fun on Thursday. I even captured a wonderful photo of some adventurous “parkour”—although I’m still unable to import pictures at the moment!

January 9/26

Happy New Year!

Division 13 has settled back into our classroom routines quickly and with great energy. This week, students worked hard on their Five Senses of Christmas/Winter Vacation projects and set thoughtful goals for 2026. We’ve also begun our fraction unit in Math—so if pizza is on the menu at home, it’s a perfect chance to practice! For example: Mom had 2/8, Dad had 3/8, and I had 3/8.

Explorations continues to be a big hit with this creative group!  

Our reward for having the top number of Club RED members of the primary classes (actually the top in the whole school!) is a free Starbucks treat! The date for this walking field trip is being finalized asap.  Thank again to all families for supporting your children’s reading adventures. Our lucky pizza winners are Nolan, Winni, and Theo—their pizza lunch will be on Wednesday, Jan. 14. 

Our postponed Science World field trip is now scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 10 and is posted on the parent portal—please sign up as soon as possible. We also have another exciting outing to see the play Robin Hood at Westview, Feb. 24; this will appear on the portal on Jan. 15.

Finally, Spelling will start next week. Please review the letter explaining the program when it comes home in Monday’s planner and on Wednesday because if they have not finished the lesson they need to complete it at home.  Spelling duotangs though should be returned to school the next day.
