Nov. 28th

Yikes it is hard to believe it will be Dec. 1 on Monday, it is such a busy but wonderful time of the year!

Div.  3 and 13 are promoting Fairview's Annual Toy Drive.  We created posters for the school and each morning 2 members from our class make an announcement.  For the next two weeks students are encouraged to bring toys or cash donations for the Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Christmas Hamper.  We hope to prove that 'Little People Can Make A Big Difference'!

Div. 13 is making good progress with their Christmas song but please continue to practise 'What's This' in your child's poetry book. Please use the music link so they remember where they need to sing.  christmas-concert-class-resources.html   Wear red and a Santa hat for both the dress rehearsal (Dec. 9) and the concert (Dec. 10).   Please label your child's Santa hat and send it in on Monday, Dec. 8th.  lf you do not have access to a Santa hat let me know as Dr. Saul does have a few extras.

Thank you to all the parents who helped out with skating by driving, tying skates and joining us on the ice.  It was amazing to see the improvement of so many students in less than an hour!  Everyone was happy and excited to have had this opportunity.  Thanks for making it possible!

On Thursday Dan the Recycling Man came and reviewed how we should be recycling both at home and at school.  The students enjoyed his presentation and should be able to help you with this important task.  We have a pack in pack out policy in our classroom as soft plastics can not be recycled at school.

Conferences are this week Dec. 4th in the afternoon (11:30 dismissal) and Dec. 5th all day.  Please be sure to sign up on the parent portal.  The conference will be a  30-minute commitment (1st 15 minutes with your child in the hall to celebrate and go through their work and then 15 minutes with me and your child to discuss their report card and set goals for our next term).  If none of these times work for you please email and let me know when you are available and we can make arrangements.

Club RED Calendars need to be returned by Dec. 3rd.  Hopefully Div. 13 has done lots of reading for this past month!  Students seemed to really enjoy learning all the words of the day and have definitely expanded their vocabulary.  Our Club RED Celebration will be Dec. 18th.

Nov. 14th

Div. 13 had a quick but busy week!

Flashlight Reading was a big success today! We hope all Division 13 students are reading daily and coloring their calendars for Club RED. After finishing a book, they can color a feather with the book title, their name, and “Div. 13.” Please cut it out and return it for our special Club RED bulletin board.       Dress up as an Adjective is Friday!

All students brought home A Surprise in the Barn, a small booklet they completed during Reader’s Workshop. Please take a few minutes to read this over with your child.

Art cards came home on Friday. If you plan to order, please complete the back and return by Friday, Nov. 21. Even if you do not purchase, please return the card so we can include it in your child’s memory book and create a bulletin board featuring these artistic gingerbread houses.

Book Bags also went home today. Inside, you’ll find a letter explaining the program and a bookmark with strategies for decoding unfamiliar words. Please note that these book bags should be returned to school daily, as we will use them in class and for extra reading practice with buddies, EAs, or parent volunteers.

Thanks to all parents who have signed up for our skating field trip—it’s looking very positive! If you haven’t signed up yet, please do so as soon as possible and either pay online or send cash in a labeled ziplock bag if your child needs to rent skates and a helmet.
If you’ve volunteered to drive other students, please ensure you have:

  • Completed the volunteer form and the driver’s volunteer form
  • Submitted a driver’s abstract from ICBC
  • Provided a copy of your insurance and driver’s license (a photo is fine)

If you plan to drive only your own child, please indicate this on the portal and/or send me an email.

A big thank-you to Sophia’s dad for offering to supply and cut the wood for our Christmas craft!

Nov. 7th

Dear Families,

Interim reports were sent home on Wednesday in your child’s secret pouch. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.  Self-assessment can be challenging for children, but it’s an important skill to develop. Some statements on the report are specific, while others are more subjective. I based my judgments on your child’s own reflections about how they feel they are doing.

Club RED Activities
Our Club RED activities began this week! You may have noticed your child adding the “Word of the Day” to their planner. We’ve discussed the meanings in class, I've encouraged them to share these with you they  can write the word in a sentence to enter our weekly draws.

Today, your child also brought home a copy of our reading feathers in their planner. After finishing a book, they can decorate a feather with the book title, their name, and Division 13.

Thank you for your continued support in encouraging reading and self-reflection at home!

Zoob is the best!
Such a fun and creative idea! Using an umbrella as a hoop for tossing pinecones turns something ordinary into a playful outdoor game.

Our three field trips are now confirmed, please sign up fon the portal for skating  Nov. 25th.

Our three field trips are now confirmed! Please sign up on the portal for skating on November 25th.

Reader’s Workshop
New books (marked with post-its in planners) have started coming home or will be coming soon. Please practice these with your child.

Math Practise                                                                                                                                                   If you didn’t have a chance to play Subtraction Bump last weekend, please try to play it this weekend—it’s a fun way to reinforce math skills!

Celebrating Division 13
I’m so impressed with Div. 13! They brainstormed wonderful words connected to Peace and created beautiful PEACE acrostic poems.

Looking Ahead: Christmas Craft
I’m planning a holiday craft and wondering if any families have 2x4 wood pieces they could donate and cut for our class. The size needed is approximately 7" x 3½", and we’ll need 18 pieces. If needed, I can purchase the wood if someone is able to cut it. Please let me know if you can help!
