October 24/25

Thank you to everyone that helped out with our field trip to Meadows Family Farm!  Div. 13 said they loved it!  We did Pumpkin math that afternoon comparing the size of the pumpkins, learned about height, width and depth (3-D) as well as circumference.  Ask your child about this to see if they remember!

We celebrated Diwali  'Festival of lights' this past week, learning about it with our big buddies, painting diyas and then created nature rangolis with Div. 13 for Forest Fun.

Fairview is planning their 2nd Family LIteracy Event. Save the date! It's free just sign up on the parent portal,

Our Halloween Celebration will be on Friday, Oct. 31.  Instead of Family Reading we will have Halloween math games from 8:30 - 8:50.  Students are encouraged to come in costume on Halloween but please remember costumes should be appropriate, easy to take off and on as they will be going outside for recess/lunch and we wouldn't want them to be ruined for trick or treating. We will have a special spooky storytime and parade in the gym followed by Dr. Saul's Monster Mash school dance!  Thanks to these families for providing our snacks and goodies. Fruit Plate - Chase, Veggie Plate - Hussain, Cheese/Crackers or small sandwiches - Shaienne, Sweet Treat - Nolan,  Popcorn/chips or pretzels - Lilac  Please note we have no allergies in our classroom.

Please be practising your child's Reader's Workshop book that is in their planner bag (with their name and a post-it).  We will be doing these presentations hopefully this week.

I'll be sending home Club RED information later this week, please read over carefully, keep the calendar in a safe place (fridge or even planner) and mark down our special Friday events!

Div. 13 loves to spend 'Your Time' outside!

October 17/25

Our upcoming field trip is Tuesday morning.  Students will need booster seats, to be dressed for the weather, snack in their pocket and bring a bag for their pumpkin. Cost for parents joining us for the farm is $6.00.  This will be paid to Meadows Farm Tuesday morning.  If you have already paid I will give you your cash back so that you can pay.  For parents that are just driving their child and coming back to pick up there is no cost.   Students need to pay either on the portal or cash to me $11.00 by Monday.

Div. 12 and 13 made nature patterns in the forest!

Many of your children will have brought home a book with a post-it with their name in their planner bags. These are for Reader's Workshop, please practise these as they will be presenting these books with a group or a partner to the rest of the class.  Please keep these in with their planners so that they can also practise at school.  Thanks for your support with this.  If your child doesn't have one yet they will soon (it is a station that they go to during Reader's Workshop, there are 5 stations so it takes 5 days before they have gone to each station).

This group loved playing the game Footloose!
These magnetic blocks are the BEST!

Div 13's Turkeys!

Happy Thanksgiving, hope you all enjoy a wonderful extra long weekend with family and friends.  Please try to complete the Gratitude Scavenger Hunt that is in your child's poetry book, recognizing things that they are grateful for!  You could also act out the The Great Turkey Escape.

Thanks to everyone who sent in food for our food drive. Div. 13 & 5 did a great job making the announcement to the school each morning and it resulted in lots of non-perishable food for the Maple Ridge Friends in Need Food Bank.

Please sign up and pay asap for the field trip on Tuesday, October. 21.  You can either pay either online or send in cash in a labelled ziplock bag asap.  Parent drivers are needed, we are short drivers!  If you plan to drive your own child please indicate on the portal or send me an email.  Also please ensure that you have your driver's volunteer form completed, submit a drivers abstract from ICBC, plus I need to a copy of your insurance and to check your driver's license.  You can send in a copy or a picture of the documents.

A reading strategy sheet was sent home in the secret pouch this week.  These can be kept at home and used during reading times as ways your child can take action to decode unfamiliar words.

More Exploration Fun!

DIV. 13 IS A VERY CREATIVE GROUP!

Div. 13 and Div. 5 have organized Fairview's annual Food Drive this week for the Friends in Need Food Bank, so hopefully those less fortunate can still enjoy a Thanksgiving feast.  Please send in non-perishable food to support this important cause.  We are making announcements daily and want to demonstrate how 'little people can make a big difference'!
This week in our Poetry book your child has brought home a Gratitude Scavenger Hunt as part of our Thanksgiving theme.  It would be great if you could discuss this at home over the next couple of weeks.  It is so important to take some time to be thankful and think about lucky we are!

Sign up for the field trip on Tuesday, October. 21, asap.  Please pay either online or send in cash in a labelled ziplock bag.  Parent drivers are needed, please ensure that you have your driver's volunteer form completed, submit a drivers abstract from ICBC, plus I need to a copy of your insurance and to check your driver's license.  You can send in a copy or a picture of the documents.
